Easter or Resurrection Sunday is coming up. Let's reflect...
For this is how much God loved the world—he gave his one and only, unique Son as a gift. So now everyone who believes in him will never perish but experience everlasting life. “God did not send his Son into the world to judge and condemn the world, but to be its Savior and rescue it! - John 3:16-17 TPT
God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. - Ephesians 1:5 NLT
For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. - 2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT
For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time. - 1 Timothy 2:5-6 NLT
So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. - John 1:14 NLT
No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven. - John 3:13 NLT
He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed. - 1 Peter 2:24 NLT
First of all, who's giving up their innocent (and only) son to cover the wrongs of someone else??
Also, who would volunteer to leave Heaven and come live on this earth?? Jesus willingly came down, lived a perfect life, and set an example for us. Then He died for sins he would never commit. All of this without a guarantee that we would choose Him, choose to live for Him, or even acknowledge Him. Simply because He loves us!
If we're really honest with ourselves, it makes no sense. We did nothing to deserve such a sacrifice. Our story could have been completely different. He could have tried to find another way (if you know the story, you know He briefly considered it). He could have left us to try and figure it out on our own. Or, He could have just let us suffer the consequences. He literally "didn't have to do it but He did". That should make you even more grateful.
"I couldn't earn it. I don't deserve it...The overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God" (Reckless Love - Cory Asbury)
